Seamus
Seamus was born in Port Townsend, Washington. He moved to Hawaii in 1966 to become an underwater photographer. Sadly, he ruptured an eardrum while diving to collect and photograph rare reef fish. However, the impressions of the spectacular ocean and the sea life contained within it had been permanently embedded in his mind. He could no longer dive down to visit this world he had grown to feel a part of and he could not shake the feeling of separation from the depths. While looking at his empty fish tanks he decided to paint his memories on the wall behind the tanks.
This was the origin of SEAMUS! He learned quickly and his work was carried all throughout the islands. He moved from the Big Island to Kauai in 1995 and reached out to his old friend, Ray Charron. From there forward together they created the first seeds of the Aloha Images which you are familiar with now.
He always said, “I want to express purity, as well as beauty in my work. I want everyone who sees my paintings to feel what I felt under the waves!” He painted daily until the day he put his brush down for the last time, May 20, 2020. He was an incredible artist, great friend, and most of all, he was a good man! We hope you enjoy his life’s work, and through it, allow his spirit to live beneath the surface where it was always most at peace.
